Photo 1: Pots are taken out
of the raku kiln when it reaches 1000oC using long tongs.
The pieces are
placed in to a bin filled with sawdust where the heat of the pieces cause the
wood fibres to ignite and carbonise the surface – Reduction
Photo 2: The pots are allowed
to cool then removed from the sawdust.
They are placed in
a bucket of water to remove sawdust coating
Photo 3: Three of my finished
raku bowls.
The inside has been
finished with a crackle glaze. The effect is emphasised through the result of rapid firing, thermal shock, smoking and
carbonising.
